Lahti Railway Station

Invited Architectural Competition 1st Prize.

The station renovation and extension, and also the new platform canopies construction became necessary due to new Kerava-Lahti railway. The whole yard was expanded and the new pedestrian tunnel under railway yard was constructed. The canopies consist of two long flat roof structures standing next to each other. Platforms are reached via glass glazed staircase or via a lift. The materials chosen bring a touch of softness to the station. Timber-clad slatted ceiling with recessed lighting appears as a large wooden surface and creates a human atmosphere.
